Scleral lens

Scleral

How it works

The EyeSpace® Scleral lens is designed to vault over the cornea and rest on the conjunctiva overlying the sclera. This creates a fluid-filled space between the back surface of the lens and the front of the cornea. The smooth, regular front surface of the lens then focuses light onto the retina, while the fluid layer neutralises much of the cornea’s natural refractive power. This is particularly useful when the corneal surface is irregular. Scleral lenses can be used for vision correction or rehabilitation of the ocular surface.

The EyeSpace® Scleral Calculator generates the ideal lens optics and back surface parameters based on your clinical findings. You can use the calculator to modify existing lenses or design new ones after performing a diagnostic fit. You can also order lenses without a diagnostic fit based solely on corneoscleral profilometry.

Make it your own

Custom lathe files

The power of precision and repeatability is in your hands. Your design is converted directly into an interactive lathe file. See the radius of curvature, sagittal depth and tangent angle of the lens at any point. Customise lens thickness at the centre, optic zone junction and edge. See lens profile back surface as you make your changes.

Ovate periphery

Comparison of standard and ovate diameters, demonstrating an oval landing zone over an eye with a Placido disc pattern, compared with a circular-diameter landing zone.

Get great centration with an ovate periphery design. Match the lens to the shape of the sclera with spherical, toric or quadrant-specific peripheries. The better the match, the better the seal, which reduces midday fogging and improves comfort.

HOA control

Keratoconus can significantly degrade vision due to higher-order aberrations (HOAs). When the cone is decentered inferior and temporal, adding eccentricity to the front lens surface reduces HOAs and improves vision. Fully customisable wavefronts are also available for total optical control.
